Secure Audio Communication in the Hospital

Intro:

One of the critical concerns that the Clinical and IT teams have in the hospital is security and HIPAA compliance. This is especially true in Interventional Labs using wireless medical-grade headsets to talk hands-free to their team members in the procedure and control room.

Frequency Hopping:

Our Platinum and Gold Headset Systems use a proprietary Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) mode.  The over-the-air frame structure is similar to what is used in 1.9 GHz DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Communications).

How it Works:

The modulation is Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying (GFSK) -- and the over-the-air rate is 1.152 MBPS.  Channel spacing is approximately 2 MHz, so roughly (40) channels are in the 2.400 to 2.480 GHz band.

The systems can be configured to use either the high or low part of this 2.400 to 2.480 GHz band for enhanced security.

In layman’s terms -- our Platinum and Gold Headset Systems are constantly “hopping” frequencies so as not to allow any “unwanted” listeners.
